Let me start by saving that I LOVE this series and I was so excited to read about Blay and Qhuinn because I love the idea of having a same gender loving couple in the series. But for some reason it was REALLY hard for me to get into this book, in fact, it took me 2 years to finish it. I would start it and then go read something else, start it again and again. The book really is vintage BDD - several plots going on at the same time, revisiting characters and plots from other books. I guess in this book, I wish more of the focus had been on Blay and Qhuinn and less on the other subplots, some of which I really didn't get. The whole Shadows subplot (and I really like them) I didn't see the relevance of, nor the subplot with Assail and Sola. I know that the author likes to set up stuff for future books but it felt like there were four different, completely disconnected stories going on: Blay and Qhuinn, Layla and XCOR (who really need their own book), the Shadows, and Assail and Sola. The Lessings barely make an appearance in this book - are they still the evil enemy or has the glymera replaced them as the bad guys?
The one saving grace for me in this book is when Blay and Qhuinn FINALLY get to their HEA - it is really so sweet, it will bring tears to your eyes. But the amount of time it took them to get to it was very frustrating; there were so many missed opportunities I almost wished they both would just move on! I am still a fan and plan to go on the read the next book in the series, but I hope it focuses more on the couple and less on the various subplots or if they have subplots, please connect them

Lover at Last Black Dagger Brotherhood 8601405378910 Books Reviews

I am an avid reader. Borderline addicted to books, scratch the borderline part. Rarely do i find a series that has captivated me as fully as the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Strong leads that are just human enough to be relatable, heartstring tugging romance, and an inter-connected story line that sucks you flawlessly from one book to the next.
I never thought I would be as emotionally invested in a gay couple as I am with Qhuinn and Blay. I've never read a MM gay romance before, and didn't think I'd ever want to. But as Blay and Qhuinn's story began to unfold throughout the series I found myself impatient to get to their book, and I was not disappointed!! Their story is by far my favorite so far in the series. Qhuinn has been shafted so many times in life and Blay is the perfect person to make him believe he is worth so much more than he's been made to believe. I wish their book was 500 pages longer just so I could stay ensconced in their love just a little bit longer. J. R. Ward you are a master of your craft and I bow to your excellence! Long live the Brotherhood!
The Story
This book is a looonnng time coming. Blaylock, best friend to John Mathew, has always accepted himself. He is gay and refuses to be anything but who he is. Qhuinn, son of no one, has been shunned by his aristocratic family simply because one eye is blue, one green. He grew up hating himself, having his family despise and shun him, ultimately led to his brother murdering him, NO SPOILERS pertaining to this book, promise this happened in the early day of this series, The Scribe Virgin (their goddess) brought Qhuinn back and he was assigned to be John Mathews AHSTRUX NOHTRUM, basically John's constant shadow and guard.. Blaylock has always been in love with Qhuinn, but so insecure in himself Q always rejected Blay. Now Blay has moved on and Qhuinn is torn up inside knowing he missed his chance at his mate. As the enemy on multiple fronts increases an emotional whirlwind strikes at the heart of these boys.

Thoughts
If you're like me you have long awaited this novel! I'm relatively young, but the slang in this book sometime is hard to understand! This book weaves together in the past present and future of Qhuinn and Blay. This book in peticular also featured a lot of little segments of everyone else in the house. This book is just as long, but not nearly as focused on the two main characters like the other books have been. I can only guess as to the reasoning, but in my opinion the relationship portion wasn't nearly as intense as the past has been. I'm not sure if its because their story stretched so far, or if the author leaned away from detailed physical scenes in this book. They were more romantic and vague then the other books in this series. Emotion wasn't as readily tangible as previous works. Nevertheless I wasn't disappointed per say. I'm glad they finally had their moment to shine and I still look forward to the continuing series
Three stars and I am being generous. Can we stop introducing new people? This was supposed to be Blay and Qhuinn's book, but it felt like they were secondary characters. While I enjoy diversity in books, I am not invested in sexual relations between two people of the same sex. I am going to assume it's because I am more a visual reader, and when you can't put yourself in the situation, it makes it harder to connect. I found myself eye rolling a lot through the story. There where just too many cast of characters in this book. Layla and the pregnancy seems unnecessary, at least in regards to Blay and Qhuinn

I felt like there was drama for just dramas sake between the two. I am officially taking a break from the books, as I am starting to dislike them, and they started off with so much promise.
